Embrace Your Inner Beauty

I sure had fun over the holidays and I’ve collected a few extra pounds around the middle to prove it. What I started noticing post-holiday though (in addition to the extra pounds) is a feeling of body disgust lurking in the corners of my mind.

I feel inspired though because, instead of being weighed down by that unhelpful thought I’ve made a conscious effort to leave it far behind me and focus on embracing my inner beauty. Why? Because that’s what will help fire up my determination to be an even healthier and more vibrant version of myself going forward.

You can join me now on YouTube for this short practice. Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel!

In the description below, you’ll find the rationale for the choice of postures, oils, mudra and mantra which will make your practice more powerful. So, have a read and then click on the “Do the Practice” button below. As always, this practice is based on the amazing ancient healing traditions of yoga and Ayurveda. Enjoy!

Yoga Postures to Kick Start your Willpower

The yoga postures in this practice are stimulating and warming. They are designed to reduce excess earth and water (kapha dosha). An excess of these two elements leads to an accumulation of excess weight and low energy according to Ayurveda. The postures I use in this practice are:

  1. Dynamic standing twist sequence.

  2. Side bend.

This short practice is an excerpt from the kapha-reducing practice that you can learn in my signature yoga-based course in self care called Take the Journey.

Essential Oil: Smart & Sassy to Boost your Metabolism

The oil blend I’ve used in this practice is Smart & Sassy (a DoTerra blend). It is a combination of grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger and cinnamon.

Physiologically, these oils help to stimulate metabolism, aid in weight loss, help to reduce cellulite and reduce cravings. From an Ayurvedic perspective, they also reduce excess kapha due to their actions, specifically the astringent, expectorant and diuretic actions.

From an emotional perspective, they help us shift from the heavy feeling of being unhappy about our physical body (body shame, body disgust) to accepting ourselves as we are now in all our post-holiday glory. It’s this self-compassion that actually gives us the power (not complacency) to do the things that help us be the best version of ourselves, including taking action to lose those few extra holiday pounds.

Essential oils can be used aromatically and topically as in the practice on my YouTube video. You could also apply them topically to the kidney area (to help reduce excess water retention) and to any areas where you have an accumulation of cellulite, often abdominal area and top of thighs for women.

This oil can also be taken internally under the guidance of an experienced health care practitioner.

Mudra and Mantra to Embrace Your Inner Beauty

The hand gesture, or mudra in this practice called Brahma mudra.

The mudra awakens energy and vitality. It helps to build self esteem and determination and to realize your full potential by developing self-mastery.

The mantra “I embrace my inner beauty and use that to fire up my willpower and determination” helps you to shift negative self-talk, which can lead to inertia and depression, to more empowering positive thoughts.

You can learn about Ayuveda, mudras, mantras, yoga postures for your mind-body type and more in the Take the Journey course.
